Our
Story

"What God has joined together, let no man separate it… Matthew 19:6"
We’ve been married for 54 years.
Dorian is of Okinawan (Japanese) descent, and Sharon is of Chinese descent. God knew us and had a purpose for us before we were in our mother’s womb. We were the first generation of intermarriage on both sides of our family, blending two distinct cultures while being fully American.
Dorian was raised in the Japanese Buddhist culture of Hawaii. His parents spoke Japanese among their relatives and used "broken Pidgin" English with their children. Sharon was raised in the First Chinese Baptist Church in Fresno. She grew up in a four-generation home where education was the top priority, and fluent English was spoken. Sharon was able to speak some Cantonese to her great-grandmother. Her mother served as the church organist for over 80 years.
Dorian and Sharon married in their senior year at Chico State College, Dorian with his BA in Social Work and Sharon with her BA in Child Development. We both had a passion for working with people.
Prior to marriage, we were involved with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship. After marrying, we served the Lord in the Baptist church, where Dorian was a deacon for several years. We then served together as deacons in a non-denominational church in San Diego. We attended the church’s Bible College and were ordained in 1983. In the same year, we completed correspondence courses from the International Bible Institute and Seminary, where Dorian received his Master’s in Theology and Doctor of Divinity, and Sharon received her Master’s in Religious Education.
What a year! We packed our bags with our two young preschool-aged children and launched out with a prophetic word: "Go to the land of your Father and kindred, and I will be with you." (Genesis 31:3) So we moved to Hawaii, Dorian’s heritage. It was our training ground in spiritual warfare and the walk of the overcomer. During this time, Sharon also earned her Master’s in Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Phoenix while working for the Hawaii Department of Education.
For years, we blended our ministry with work in both the secular and church worlds, from 1972 to the present. Together, we pioneered and developed the Santee Christian Preschool in San Diego, California, starting in 1976 and running it for five years. In 1983, we pioneered and pastored Sunrise Chapel/Sonrise Outreach International in Hawaii for 25 years. Dorian was President of Hawaii Christian Leaders Association for 3 years. After 7 years of pastoring, we took a sabbatical, completed 3 months Crossroads Training with Youth With a Mission, Kona, and spent 2 months on the mission field in Malaysia. Since then, we’ve ministered in Brazil, California, China, Guam, Haiti, Hawaiian Islands (Hawaii, Kaui, Maui), Hong Kong, Okinawa, Saipan and Tinian, and currently in Texas. Starting in 2000, we pioneered a mission in Ilocos Sur, the Philippines, and after 25 years, we have established Wellsprings of Faith Christian Church in the Philippines.
In 2023, we graduated from Kenneth Copeland Bible College. We continue to fulfill the Great Commission both at home and abroad, discipling young people and local leaders in the mission field to bring in the end-time harvest.
We are perpetuating a legacy of commitment by building long-term, family-like relationships, and recently, we have been honored to be called spiritual parents both locally and abroad.
